You are digging deep...
St. Colman’s and All Saints Community.
In these extraordinary times, we are all thinking on our feet. As many of our teachers are parents themselves or helping children of friends and relatives, we are learning on the job that this home schooling business is harder than it initially looked!!! So we’ve put together a list of home school home truths to put things into perspective:
β° Your child does not need to put in a 6hr shift each day. An hour or two of learning-type activities is plenty.
π¦π»π§π½Every child in the world is in the same boat. We will get them all caught up.
π©πΌπ¨π»Every parent in the world is in the same boat.
π©π« You are not their teacher. You still have a home to run and possibly your own job to do from home. Prioritise!
π§π½π» If you’re worrying that you’re not doing enough, you probably are.
π₯ Let them have some screen time if it preserves your sanity. There are lots of quality resources online as well as stuff that’s just for fun. We can do a digital detox when this is all over!
π₯ Some children won’t be able to get enough of the Mathletics, AR, Google Classroom activities etc from their teacher. Some won’t want to do them at all. Don’t stress about completing everything! There’s enough to be stressed about right now.
βοΈ Your child can or soon will be able to complete these tasks independently so bear with them....and us! Email: info@stcolmans.annaclone.ni.sch.uk It is more systematic way of picking up your issues than commenting on threads here.
βοΈ Find a balance that works for your family. Fancy playing a board game instead? Fine! Post a pic. Want to cook lunch together? Great! Post a pic.
π₯ Don’t fight with them! We need all the love and positivity that we can get at the moment.
π¬ Just check in with us every now and then to let us know how you’re getting on.
β€οΈ We love and miss your children. Ordinarily, we are privileged to get to spend 5-6hrs a day with them. Cherish this extra time with them as best you can. We only have one non-negotiable: KEEP THEM AT HOME!
In the meantime, be kind to yourself. We trained to do this for a living and we’re struggling to juggle it all!! π€ͺ We are already looking forward to being back in our classrooms with 20-30 children who (almost) always do what we ask of them β€οΈ
May St. Colman watch over and pray for all of us. Stay safe and at home and God bless everyone for the days and weeks that lie ahead. You’re doing a great job.
