Uachtarán na hÉireann - President of Ireland
This morning we took delivery of a very important letter from a very important figure for the people of Ireland. From his state residence (Aras an Uachtarain), in the middle of Phoenix Park, Dublin, President Michael D. Higgins wrote a letter to the good children of St. Colman's Primary School and All Saints' Nursery Unit. Word had reached him about how much we value the promotion of reading in Annaclone and about our fantastic World Book Day 2021 film. He felt compelled to offer his congratulations and praise to all of you.
The letter is attached below. I have already asked Mrs Dale to get it framed and hang it in the front office. Why not take the time this afternoon to learn a little about The President, his job, where he lives and what the role entails. His list of achievements, world leaders he has entertained and personal biography make for great reading.
Girls and boys you have admirers in very high places. Well done to you all.
Michael D. Higgins is the 9th President of Ireland. Before becoming president, Michael D. Higgins spent 25 years in Dáil Éirean (the Irish Parliament) and 9 years in the Seanad Éireann (the Irish Senate). In 1993 he became Ireland's first Minister for Arts, Culture and Gaeltacht (Irish language speaking areas). Throughout his life he has campaigned for human rights and for the promotion of peace and democracy.
