P4 have spent lots of time this year building their capacity in mental maths and working on being able to discuss which strategy they have used to help solve an equation. This week we built that into our lesson using word problems. The pupils chose various word problems from their tub. They had to work out the answer in their head, note it down and then at the end we discussed how they went about it. The pupils were able to identify which strategy they used and could see that sometimes there are a variety of strategies that may work but it is finding the easiest method for us. We had fun and learnt a little from listening to our friends too.
