No January Blues in Nursery!
Everyone in nursery is delighted to be back to school to see their friends. With some children isolating before Christmas it seems like it has been a long time from we had a full class. It was great to see all those smiles on the first day back and wonderful to see those wee faces light up when they seen their friends coming in the door.
Already we have been working very hard learning all about Winter and our Polar Regions. We have enjoyed an Icey day and some snow and the children had great enjoyment, breaking the ice and using all their senses to explore it. We brought out sand moulds and spades and enjoyed making different shapes in the little bit of snow we had. We were a little disappointed we didn’t have enough to make a snowman. We even enjoyed a cup of warm milk or hot chocolate to warm us up again. We had some great discussion about the ice and investigated what would happen the ice if we brought it inside. Some children predicted correctly that it would melt when we brought it inside. Some children could even tell me why it melted.
This month we are looking at ‘cold colours’ and we have been using collage materials and paints to make a winter picture. For cookery we chopped up some vegetables and made vegetable soup. Some of us were brave enough to taste a piece of raw onion, however, I am not sure they would try it a second time. We then tasted our home made soup the next day. We enjoyed it outside and it helped to warm us up. It was delicious with some children even having seconds and thirds!
We are already looking forward to next week, when we will be learning about penguins. We have been learning a penguin dance at song time. We all have a little giggle when Mrs. Gribben does it as she looks a bit silly.
Keep checking our website for more photos of what we have been getting up to in Nursery.
