Exciting Kenyan Partnership for St. Colman’s Primary School, Annaclone
St. Colman’s discovering the power of global learning 🌍🇰🇪🤝
Connecting Classrooms is a global education programme for schools. It aims to help young people worldwide develop the knowledge, skills and values they need for life and work in a global economy and is delivered by the British Council in partnership with the Department for International Development (DFID).
St. Colman’s Primary School in Annaclone is linking up with a school in Kenya 🇰🇪, in the hope of encouraging children to become responsible young citizens interested in global sustainability and tomorrow’s world.
With the help of Canon Kearney & his lifelong friend and missionary priest, Father Nicky Hennity we have been able to secure a partnership with a primary school in Mombasa. St. Charles Lwanga Primary School and their community will work collaboratively with us on the project.
The project sees three Primary Schools from South Down (Annaclone, Dechomet & Cabra) clustering with three more from Mombasa.
The schools are taking part in the new Connecting Classrooms through Global Learning (CCGL) initiative, a DFID (Department for International Development) and British Council programme, which aims to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to live and work in a global economy.
The Connecting Classrooms through Global Learning programme aims to connect N Ireland schools with African, Asian and Middle Eastern classrooms and will benefit over three million pupils worldwide, with school partnerships available with over 30 countries across the world.
It will also train 60,000 teachers and school leaders in the UK and developing countries to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to make a positive contribution toward a more fair and equal world.
As part of Catholic Schools week our P7 children made cards for the children of St. Charles Lwanga. We have many other inter-school activities that we will work on and may yet be visited by teachers from Kenya in the autumn.
